  CURLY , WAVY ,  STRAIGHT & COMBINATIONS

Curly Hair

Curly hair reacts well to layered and contoured style cuts that are shaped to fit the size of the head and face. Because of its natural volume some selective thinning maybe required to control the fullness.

There are several types of curly hair; loose ringlets and tight curls or combination. It can have a soft, course or dry texture.  Because our hair reacts to moisture it will frizz and look bushy when exposed to humid weather or become straighter in dry climates. Combinations of curly and straight or wavy hair is not that all uncommon. For example, straight through the top and curly through the sides or back.

Curly and combinations of straight and curly hair can be temporarily  relaxed for a wavy or straighter look with heat from a blow dryer, hot rollers and pressed straight with a flat iron. It can also be straightening with a chemical curl relaxing solution.

Styling Aids: Due to the elastic nature and volume of curly hair it often requires special styling products to look its best. (see styling kits and products for curly hair)

Wavy Hair

Wavy hair works well with one length,  layered and contoured style cuts that are shaped to fit the size of the head and face.

There are several types of wavy hair; thin soft slightly wavy and tight thick course waves or combination.
Often it will look bushy and become frizz when exposed to humid weather and become straighter in dry climates. Combinations of wavy and curly or straight hair is not that all uncommon. For example, straight through the top and wavy through the sides or back.

Because of its natural volume (body-fullness) some selective thinning maybe required to control it.
Wavy and combination of both straight, curly can be temporarily  changed for a even look when styled with a blow dryer, set with rollers or pressed straight with a flat iron. It can also be straightening with a chemical relaxing solution.

Grooming Aids: Due to its elastic nature (spring) and dry texture wavy hair requires special styling products to look its best, especially when heat styled for straighter looks. (see styling kits for wavy hair)

Straight Hair

Straight hair works well for bobbed (one length hair styles) but can also work well when layered or cut short all over for a contoured shape to fit the size and shape of the head and face.

There are several types of straight hair; thin fine, course or a combination of both. Fine thin straight hair will dry quickly but often lacks body and clings to the head. While thick course hair will take longer to dry and can become bushy when dry. Combinations of straight and curly or wavy hair is not that all uncommon. For example, straight through the top and curly through the back.

Thin, fine straight hair that lacks (body / fullness) will look fuller and thicker when colored. Combination straight, curly and wavy hair can be corrected with a body wave permanent or straightened and curled with a roller set of bow dryer styling.

Thick straight course hair often needs some selective thinning  to control the fullness. It can be softened with a blow dryer and styling lotion and temporarily made to look wavy or curly with a roller or curling iron set.

Grooming Aids: To look its best straight hair requires special styling products for style support or a softer texture (see salon kit for fine straight hair)
